I would highly recommend this book for medical professionals, parents, and obviously people with diabetes. I consider myself to be fairly comfortable with my diabetes management, but I've been unhappy with my A1c and my control in general lately. I would say getting a cgm was the biggest improvement followed by this book and more frequent endocrinologist appointments. The book discusses the theory as well as the nuts and bolts of logistically figuring out insulin sensitivity, nutrition, and strategies for trouble shooting basal rates, etc. I've been trying to figure out some differences I've been observing in insulin duration and it was a big help.

My only complaint about the book is that some of the charts are difficult to read on the kindle format. Not the author's fault, but my insulin pump (Tandem TSlim) and CGM (Dexcom G4) were released after this edition was published.

HAVING HAVING BEEN A TYPE 1 DIABETIC FOR ALMOST 60 YEARS, I THOUGHT I KNEW A LOT ABOUT DIABETES. THIS BOOK PROVIDED A LOT OF VERY USEFUL FORMATION. SHOULD BE A "MUST READ" FOR ANY DIABETIC USING A PUMP.
I am getting ready to go on the insulin pump and someone had recommended this book. It has so much information for first timers and even seasonal users. It answered a lot of my questions and general concern I had. It is a great reference tool to have too.
This book was recommended to me by our wonderful pediatric endocrinologist. My toddler was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and we will be starting him on an insulin pump soon.

This book introduced me to all the important related topics like basal vs. bolus and how to know which one needs to be changed, bolus on board, whether to stop a pump when low, all about CGMs, detailed info on ketones and DKA like how to avoid and treat it, specific instructions for starting the pump like when to stop your long-acting insulin.

I highly recommend this book to anyone considering or using a pump. Even diabetics (or care-givers) who will not be using a pump can benefit.

There are many great charts and visuals in the book too.
I am a Type 1 Diabetic considering getting a continuous glucose monitor or an insulin pump. This book has been invaluable to me. It goes into detail the pros and cons of each. It is very objective and thorough. I discusses the many types of devices as well as the different brands! I would definitely recommend this book!
Probably the best reference manual on insulin pumping I've read so far. Exceeds any instruction you will get from your Endo or PA regarding setting up and testing your insulin pump. Can be confusing at times, and things don't always work as advertised - just remember that your body may not fall within the norms listed in this manual. The instruction on how to and the importance of setting up your pump with the correct individualized parameters does work if you have the patience and time. I would recommend you find a PA or Educator that is familiar with this book to help guide you if you have difficulty.
Like many diabetics, I am lucky if I get three minutes with my doctor every three months. This book explains in detail how pump therapy works, and how to adapt it to your real life. Instead of nonspecific (often mistaken or inacurate) guidelines, it provides realistic instructions for everyday situations. It can help you actually live with diabetes the 99.9% of life outside the doctor's office, while making consultations more productive, too.
I love this book. Started myself on the pump using the equations in this book, despite my Endo's dismay. To his surprise, I pimped the pump so hard that my A1C when from 6.9 to 5.4 in 4 months with ONLY 2 significant lows! On Lantus, I had at least 1 significant low EVERY week. Love this book! It taught me how to adjust my basal depending on what my BS does during the day and night. I love that Mr. Walsh gives worksheets to plot your BS and according to how low or high your BS is at the end of a certain time limit, you adjust the basal/correction factor/carb factor (whichever one your testing at the time) per his perimeters. That visualization in addition to my CGM help me tremendously!

I should note, I'm kind of a DM-1 nerd and I might be a little biased. I hope you like it too! I'm so far into DM that I can't wait to read it again!
